Booklet Cover Design, Illustration & Hand Lettering

This booklet cover by Harry LeMay was designed for a publication at Plainview HS. The whimsical Totem Pole of Caricatures, with many of history's most recognizable images, suggested the overall layout of the design. The lettering was created to echo the upright stance of the illustration. The lettering style was created by Harry, and was later used on a number of book jackets when he was an Assistant Art Director and Graphic Designer at Dell Books. The lettering style was frequently copied by other designers during the late 50's and early 60's.
